I came across this title while browsing through the horror genre on Tubi. I expected some craptacular, cheesy movie about the plague and was pleasantly surprised.
It's hard to place this movie in a genre - too much gore for a drama, not scary enough for horror, not enough action for action/adventure, but it was good. The setting and costumes were perfect. Lots of thought went into creating mood, and it was filmed in the beautiful forests of Germany. However, there were some plot holes, and the dialogue was a bit cheesy at times. The acting was impressive, and we see some familiar faces from the likes of Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. Overall, worth watching.
Needs more of a plot.
Dark, grim and bloody, ‘Black Death' has its moments of sword & shield action that you might expect from a medieval film, but for the most part, it sets about tackling the subject of the bubonic plague from the perspective of the devout, both Christian and Pagan, levelling fierce criticism at each of them. Quite the savage portrayal of an equally savage time in the history of humanity.
Historically thoughtful and grittily violent - pretty much as you would expect.
A deep and meaningful film, which pits the ideologies of Christianity and Paganism against each other. Dark, depressing, visceral, extremely underrated and deserving of far more praise. Performances are passable, but no real standout, although Carice Van Houten is very well cast.
really enjoyed this film
A brutal and grim medieval drama.
Not a great movie with issues in the story narrative, but I was entertained enough to stay with it.
Best film made about the Back Death. Not amazing but good, intelligent film
A brilliant, bleak examination of religion and paganism during the plague.
Not a horror but still a fun and entertaining plot that really picks up during the climax. Plus its got great actors who really play their roles well. And its got a good ending.
