Harrison Ford still retains enough of his old movie star magic to ramp up the electricity a bit when he's onscreen, but this only makes you want to see him do something that makes better use of his gifts. Brendan Fraser just seems to grow bigger over theMarch 2, 2010 | Full Review…
Soapy and unemotional, this makes a hash of an interesting true story.
Moderately illuminating in parts, but the clich (C)s of cinematic suffering tend to overwhelm it.
Harrison Ford is the clich (C) of a scientist who cares more for equations than humans, and works to atrocious rock music. The child actors are cloying in their cuteness. A serious subject drowned by sentimentality.
Fraser's blandness makes for a deeply uninteresting fit with Ford's supposedly adorable grumpiness. Very ordinary.February 26, 2010 | Rating: 1/5 | Full Review…

Apr 24, 2011Poor acting by Frasier and Ford, no real focus on the disease that the kids suffer from and many pointless scenes that seem to just extend the movie and do nothing else.Sanjay R Super Reviewer
Feb 10, 2011I sat with this movie because it gripped me in a way where I just HAD to see how far the role will go to save or lose the children that were stricken with that neurological disabling (Pompe's) disease. The questions of health care on who gets what and when is truly the question here that stuck in my mind throughout this showing... Harrison Ford and Brendan Frasier along with Keri Russell and Meredith droeger all on the same screen in this movie provided which was indeed (to me) memorable performances never to ever be forgotten.Fascade F Super Reviewer
Jan 23, 2011It was heart wrenching and heart warming at the same time. Great acting by Harrison Ford as Dr. Stonehill and Brendan Fraser was excellent in the role of a father with two children affected by a terminal disease.Meghan M Super Reviewer
Jan 16, 2011"Extraordinary Measures" is a halfway-decent effort that manages to be engaging only because it is based on a true story, of the lengths parents can go to all for the love of their children. However, Brendan Fraser's goofball mug is hard to take seriously as a heartbroken, hardworking real-life dad, and much of the film seems rote an...d bland. Harrison Ford lends a teaspoonful of much-needed crediblity to the proceedings, and this is a film where he actually puts in the effort to turn out a good performance. For the last decade or so, Ford has mostly been standing around and trying not to look bored, on the pretense that he is, well, Harrison Ford. Here however, he puts his back into it, and it is actually quite refreshing to see Ford grumpy, irascible and actually unlikable. Unfortunately, his character of "Dr Robert Stonehill" is wholly a fabrication for the purposes of the film; I suppose the real-life figures such as William Canfield and Dr Yuan Tsong-Chen. Keri Russell does a good job as Aileen Crowley, not afraid to look like a normal, upper middle-class mum as opposed to a movie star. Unfortunately, the film's mise en scene is always too perfectly picturesque and its camerawork always too Lifetime-channel sentimental - and the music all but ruins several potentially dramatic scenes. Ultimately, this is another case of Hollywood dousing a story in melodrama, when its real-life basis needs none to be added. It is a little upsetting to see how often this occurs; how often a riveting true story is done injustice by the Hollywood machine.Jedd Y Super Reviewer
