sheldon n 08/02/2013 It's got an important message, but the message is not delivered well. Instead of showing some of the rather useless political gestures, the movie is about rampant consumerism, and tends to take a "shame on you" approach. I personally agree with the message, but not delivered in this rather harsh way. There are better films that get the message across that propose actual solutions rather than resorting to shame tactics, like "What Would Jesus Buy?" (which also features Reverend Billy) or "The End of Suburbia." See more 10/08/2010 Occasionally amusing, and at just shy of an hour, it was about the right length given the wannabe-Michael Moore style writing and directing. Makes valid points about consumerism but relies more on a guilt trip and less cogent discussion. Worth seeing when you want something thought provoking and don't care about the production values. It pokes fun at America’s ban on France after they didn’t support our war in Iraq. The first couple of minutes perfectly detail the idiocy of people as they bought up French wine and poured the bottles in the streets in protest, oblivious to the fact that they were actually putting money into the hands of these French wine makers. And a truly embarrassing moment in American history when French fries had its named changed to Freedom fries by some restaurant establishments. Then the film changes its course, and ends up taking jabs at consumerism. I know that George W. Bush made a speech about people needing to travel and such to prove to the terrorist that they didn’t win, but I don’t think that our obsessive need to shop correlates with the dim-witted attempt of switching the word French with Freedom. So Freedom Fries had a good idea, but its filmmaker had no idea how to carry this idea into a meaningful message. It is this sort of garbage that gives liberals a bad name. And it makes them seem like they have no real legitimate ideas or thoughts about how the country is or how it should change. This film is stupid, and another sad attempt at trying to swindle some people out of money. It seems that poking fun at politics and the way it can make people do crazy things is big business these days. But if we take the films like Freedom Fries, and any other form of entertainment similar to it, and brush it aside, then we all could start working on things with real messages that can cause real change.
