Movie Info

A remake of the controversial 1979 cult classic, I Spit on Your Grave retells the horrific tale of writer Jennifer Hills, who takes a retreat from the city to a charming cabin in the woods to start on her next book. But Jennifer's presence in the small town attracts the attention of a few morally deprived locals who set out one night to teach this city girl a lesson. They break into her cabin to scare her. However, what starts out as terrifying acts of humiliation and intimidation, quickly and uncontrollably escalates into a night of physical abuse and torturous assault. But before they can kill her, Jennifer sacrifices her broken and beaten body to a raging river that washes her away. As time passes, the men slowly stop searching for her body and try to go back to life as usual. But that isn't about to happen. Against all odds, Jennifer Hills survived her ordeal. Now, with hell bent vengeance, Jennifer's sole purpose is to turn the tables on these animals and to inflict upon them every horrifying and torturous moment they carried out on her... only much, much worse. -- (C) Anchor Bay

  • It's better made, more plausible than the original, the sexual violations less drawn out, the vengeance more violent and elaborate.

A remake of a classic "female revenge" film. While this one still shows the horror that Jennifer goes through, it is not as brutal as the original. The revenge killings, however, are different and more creative in this remake. Excellent performance by Sarah Butler as it cannot be remotely easy to act out the scenes she had to.

The reboot. The remake. Second verse, same as the first. First, introduction of the players. Second, brutal rape (wherein little is spared visually, an act that makes us willing participants, d-d-duh). Third, even more brutal revenge (the same). "Where's the entertainment value here," that is the question. Introduction To Torture Porn 101.

Revenge is a dish best served cold, but this flawed movie spends way too much time showing the protagonist's horrendous suffering and humiliation in an overlong (and graphic) setup before finally moving on to the entertaining part where we get to see her actions against her aggressors.

After the disappointment of the original I Spit On Your Grave, I decided to bury the DVD and spit on it grave. To my surprise there was a remake of this "cult film", considering the somewhat false controversial status I would understand why many would to go and pursue it. The remake might be a rehash of the original, but it's a much better movie. I Spit On Your Grave is about a writer who is brutalized during her cabin retreat seeks revenge on her attackers, who left her for dead just the like original. My main problem with this remake is that it sticks to closely to the original which was awful idea. It retains one dimensional characters, bad cinematography, and a unsatisfying ending. Somehow the remake actually makes our characters even less developed than the original, but these shortcomings in characters are saved by passable acting. The female character this time might not be a developed character, but is a better example pro-women. She does not have sex with any of her rapist as part of her plan to kill them and she's by all means creatively evil. The actress who plays leading role does a great job of showing no emotions, unlike Kristen Stewart, Sarah Butler does it intentionally well. Which reminds, Sarah Butler sorta looks like Kristen Stewart in some scenes in this movie. The killings are a big improvements, while not anything shocking they are disgustingly creative. I think the one thing that will give some guys nightmares is seeing a guy with a shotgun up his behind. The acting is improved, but by no means is it good. I actually hated these male characters like I was suppose to in the original. While the remake doesn't improve much on the original, it's the kind the film that you would've expected see from the original. Now I must once again address the rating on the TAMATOMETER which is lower than original. I know the remake is a rehash, but it's much better than the original. It has passable acting, it has better killing scenes, and it has a better pro-women character. How this remake got a lower rating is baffling? If you're one who wants to see the "controversial original", you're better off watching the remake which is closer to the controversial than the original. I Spit On Your Grave is a remake that somewhat improves upon the original, but largely still retains the flaws that plagued it. Both versions of I Spit On Your Grave aren't any good, but if you were force to choose between them the remake is a better option. Unlike the original, you won't have the anger to bury the remake and then spit on it grave like the original.
