Movie Info

Psychically attuned youngster Carol Anne (Heather O'Rourke) is sent to live in Chicago with her Uncle Bruce (Tom Skerritt) and Aunt Pat (Nancy Allen). But that doesn't mean that she's escaped the apparitions that have haunted her in the past. When she starts experiencing terrifying visions, her school psychologist believes that they're figments of her imagination. But this becomes hard to believe when ghostly foes start inhabiting the mirrors in her relatives' high-rise apartment.

I have only seen the first Poltergeist, but in a catch-up session, I thought it was time to check out the other 2 films in the franchise. Poltergeist III is a train wreck, even more so than number 2, which was all the more disappointing, due to the cast. This is just a weird film and quite sad considering the O'Rourke would pass away shortly after filming had been completed. There is a well known cast here and it never comes together. You could blame the budget, or the filmmaker left in charge of the film. Number 2 had some interesting beats, but not here and the concept is by the numbers to generous. This franchise was irrelevant after the first films ending. They didn't need this or number 2 and the typical sequel push was not warranted here. They pushed the mythology too far and this doesn't work. This film fell into obscurity and rightly so. 27/10/2019

Darker than the previous movies but uninspired, repetitious, full of inconsistencies and with characters who always behave in such ludicrous ways - like Nancy Allen's who is initially annoying and selfish at one moment only to completely change her mind right after.

"We're back!" Atrocious garbage, Poltergeist III has no idea what it's doing. This installment finds Carol Anne sent off to live with her aunt and uncle in Chicago, and in therapy for her belief in ghosts; but her treatments unwittingly resurrect the spirit of Kane, who proceeds to attack Carol Anne and her family once again. Heather O'Rourke returns, and is joined by Nancy Allen, Tom Skerritt, and Lara Flynn Boyle. Yet despite the strong cast, the writing is incredibly bad; with a convoluted plot and characters that make no sense (things just happen without reason). There are some interesting ideas, with mirrors and doppelgangers, reality and illusion, but none of it ever develops into anything. Sadly, Poltergeist III's production was mired in tragedy, however, there's no excuse for such incompetent filmmaking as this.

Easily and obviously the worst of the three. But not as bad as people make it seem
