The point of the movie comes across perfectly clear and I believe it’s a great way to show children or even some adults how important self love is and also being comfortable with yourself. We all ended up laughing because it’s actually really funny and super cute. What I loved most is the message. It taught my son something important: you don’t like a girl just for her looks — you like her for who she is. The movie shows that in such a simple, kid‑friendly way that he understood it right away. Someone asked the question "what if we made a princess fat and unattractive?" And made an entire movie on that premise. It’s supposed to show true beauty is more than skin deep, but instead it just heavily confirms that fat people are ugly. The movie begins with a "cursed" girl who is on the larger side who finds magic shoes and becomes a skinny princess. The result is a whimsical mashup that feels both familiar and refreshingly different, playing like a tongue-in-cheek remix of stories we all grew up with. From the very beginning, it’s clear the filmmakers wanted to have fun with these tropes. The world is colorful, the tone is cheeky, and the premise itself is wildly inventive. The Furious Seven—a band of once-handsome heroes cursed into dwarfs after crossing the evil queen—steal nearly every scene they’re in. Their banter, insecurities, and group dynamic provide a lot of the comedy, while their quest for redemption keeps the adventure moving forward. It’s a clever twist on the traditional fairytale "prince charming" archetype, showing that even the most confident heroes can be brought down by vanity and hubris. Personally, I found the movie very creative and surprisingly engaging. The humor hits more often than it misses, and the blend of adventure and parody kept me invested from start to finish. The action sequences are lively, and the animation—while not at the level of Disney or Pixar—has a unique charm of its own. It’s colorful, exaggerated, and expressive, fitting the playful tone of the story. However, the film isn’t without a major flaw, and that’s its handling of body image. The main princess, Snow White, is initially portrayed as overweight. She only becomes admired and "seen" when she puts on the magical red slippers, which transform her into a slimmer, conventionally beautiful version of herself. On the surface, this setup seems meant to lead to an empowering message about inner beauty and self-worth. And yes, by the end, the film tries to land that point—that true beauty comes from within, and body shaming is wrong. But it takes far too long to get there, and in the meantime, it often reinforces the very stereotypes it claims to challenge. For much of the runtime, it unintentionally suggests that being thin equals being loved, while being heavier equates to invisibility. This uneven messaging leaves the story with a muddled moral core. That said, if you’re able to push past the problematic handling of its theme, there’s still a lot of fun to be had. The characters are quirky, the comedic timing works, and the fairy tale mashup format is bursting with creativity. In fact, I could honestly see a studio like DreamWorks rebranding this concept into a live-action adaptation. With some script refinement, it has all the ingredients of a fun blockbuster—fairytale magic, a subversive twist on familiar characters, and a story about learning to accept yourself. But stylistically, it’s not Disney—it’s edgier, more irreverent, and intentionally quirky in its personality. In the end, Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs is a mixed bag, but a largely enjoyable one. It’s cute, funny, and creative, even if its message stumbles along the way. For fans of fairytale remixes like Shrek or Hoodwinked!, it’s definitely worth giving a watch.
