Moving, absorbing and a grand platform for the less-is-more talents of Robbins and Freeman, two of the best going around. Go to Full Review

If this is a feel-good movie -- and by the end it certainly is -- then at least it challenges us to dig deep for those good feelings when everything inside those mausoleum walls is unrelievedly harsh and grey. Go to Full Review

Julie W Sep 13 It was great to see my favorite movie on the big screen! See more Jeremy Sep 12 I hope that everyone will continue loving this movie because it is exceptional. See more John 03/21/2024 The Shawshank Redemption is my favorite movie. Nothing better than watching this classic film on the big screen. Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins are at their best. The music of Thomas Newman is remarkable in the theater. An amazing movie experience! See more Jonathan L 03/21/2024 One of the greatest movies of all time it was tremendous to see it on the big screen as it was meant to be seen, as an electric roller coaster ride. See more Dave K @BilboBagsy 2h Rarely would I describe a film as a cinematic masterpiece. For me though The Shawshank Redemption will be one of only a few cinematic masterpieces because it will always be the film that caused me to fall in love with the art form. The Shawshank Redemption isn't actually a prison drama. Instead it becomes an encapsulating story of hope and betrayal told through the eyes of complex characters and gripping performances that will have you both hating and loving them throughout the film. It might be set in a prison but this is the story of how one man refuses to give up hope while spending a lifetime trying to inspire others to not give up on theirs. Tim Robbins portrayal of Andy Dufresne is probably the most inspiring character. Transforming from a rather cold and emotionless individual to a calm, kind and generous man, whose quiet defiance and resilience are the driving force of hope and the power of the human spirit throughout the film. A truly inspiring story film 10 / 10 See more Forrest M @RT32281296 Jun 18 "The Shawshank Redemption" is an emotionally manipulative film that preaches existentialism amid its reputation that it was a film about hope. The movie presents simple characters that are either good or bad. Also, it presents a protagonist that the viewer would cheer for in his quest for freedom and an antagonist that the viewer would condemn for his immoral and hypocritical behavior. Finally, it definitely reached high ratings due to its accessibility in cable TV and it managed to provide entertainment to viewers in despair. See more Read all reviews
