Allan C @RT15713161 Mar 15 Weak Audie Murphy oater The film is really only of note because it was directed by Don Siegel, who’d go on to direct classic films including DIRTY HARRY, ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ, INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS, and the under-appreciated CHARLY VARRICK. The other notable aspect of the film is that The Silver Kid is played by real-life war hero Audie Murphy (the most decorated American combat soldier of World War II). He was never much of an actor, but his real-life heroics (you should read about them if you don't know) makes you kind of love him. You also get Lee Marvin in an early role, playing one of his many early-career loudmouths. Overall, this one is only worth watching for western die hards (which I am) or Don Siegel fans (which I also am). CAPSULE REVIEW: Duel at Silver Creek is a weak oater notable mainly for early work by director Don Siegel and a stiff but likable turn from real-life war hero Audie Murphy, with a young Lee Marvin popping up along the way. It's not got a big message but if you want a film that entertains then this ticks the boxes. See more Bill B @RT01438538 12/06/2020 Standard 1950s western with uninspired direction, though assisted a little bit by its production. Early appearance by Lee Marvin in a small role. See more ashley h @ashleyhobgood87 09/06/2018 The Duel at Silver Creek is a decent film. It is about Marshal Tyrone and the Silver Kid who form an uneasy alliance against a gang of claim jumpers. Audie Murphy and Stephen McNally give good performances. The screenplay is a little slow in places. Don Siegel did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the action. See more 11/01/2016 170425: Neat villains including the beautiful but nasty Opal Lacy (Faith Domergue) and Johnny Sombrero (Eugene Iglesias). A bit shocking to see Opal at work the first time. Just doesn't seem to fit with a 1950s western. Lee Marvin stars as Tinhorn Burgess and Luke Cromwell (Audie Murphy) looks almost as good as his horse sporting a dual holster rig. Wasn't a big fan of the narration but liked this film's darker nature and focus on gun fighting. Plays like a 40s detective film noir. Got a kick out of all the nicknames. See more Read all reviews
