At its core, it's about a boy whose mother kept him from socialising with his peers, but he managed to gain confidence after he no longer had her influence in his life (after she died). I like unusual, quirky films, but this one was lacking charm. And it seems the whole story was all in his head, so it left me feeling pretty concerned for the girl the boy ended up with. See more prawnda s @RT72497680 05/16/2023 it starts off pretty reasonably, with a few good jokes and some weird awkwardness, nice aesthetics and acting etc. the problem is that the script runs out of ideas right around where the movie should be picking up momentum, and it just has a little too much excessive gross out content. the pacing and the contrast between serious or comedic vs just outright disgusting stuff like watching the dad vomit up ooze for 10 minutes at the dinner table. it feels like we started out with an already niche product in terms of the concept, but the film alienates it's narrow remaining audience with a lack of commitment to either horror, drama, or comedy. it's just a little too much of everything at once, and i've seen enough stale jokes about losing body parts that the undead aspects of the film were probably the least appealing.
