critics consensus
The Secret Life of Pets 2 doesn't teach its animated stars any new narrative tricks -- but for fans of the original, this funny, energetic sequel should still satisfy. Read critic reviews

Jul 22, 2020Max is off to the country in The Secret Life of Pets 2, a fun animated family film. When Max's owner and her husband go to visit their uncle's farm Max meets a sheepdog named Rooster who shows him the ropes of farm life; meanwhile Gidget loses Max's favorite toy and has to infiltrate an apartment full of cats to get it back. Featuring the voice talents of Patton Oswalt, Harrison Ford, Kevin Hart, Dana Carvey, Ellie Kemper, and Jenny Slate, the film has a solid cast that delivers great performances. And the animation is especially good; with bright, crisp colors. Also, the humor is incredibly funny and does a great job at satirizing the eccentricities of pets and the human-pet relationship. Clever and entertaining, The Secret Life of Pets 2 is a comedy that all ages can enjoy.Dann M Super Reviewer

Dec 09, 2019The Secret Life of Pets 2 is off its leash and goes astray from its narrative; missing a good amount of opportunities to make it at least just as, if not, more effective than the first film. Despite the lovable animation and additions, this sequel seems more constructive if it were adapted as a short-series. 2.48/5Eugene B Super Reviewer

Jun 24, 2019A definite step below the original but Oswalt makes a great Max and Tiffany Haddish is a great foil for snowflake. Still many laughs and sweet moments. Good summer fun! 06-08-2019Christopher O Super Reviewer

Jun 09, 2019I watched the original Pets 1, and simply loved Pets 2. All the kids in the cinema were squealing away and laughing. Visually mesmerising, good pacing and gets a simple story of overcoming fear, building courage, and of course, the importance of family. This is definitely a go-to film for families that inspires and teaches values.
