Moving account of the transition from a stable life to a warzone as told through three teenage friends. How timeless this movie is. Particularly for this part of the world.

Lebanese filmmakers tend to ignore the touchy subject of the country's long-running civil war - too many hot potatoes. Doueiri presents it through the eyes of three teenage friends, combining their young sense of wonder at a an increasingly absurd world with a distinctly comic storytelling style. As the realities of war gradually catch up, the film ends in inevitable - and beautifully conveyed - tragedy. Watching this was LONG overdue.

Well-charactered and thoughtful, West Beirut makes conflict in Palestine accessible to apathetic, teenage, American audiences like me.

A story about teens in a war torn city trying to go about their lives as if the war around them is nothing but a background scene in a painting. Only later does it down on them that the background has rushed forward, and threatens to take from them the spotlight, to overshadow their lives in ways they (and us, the audience) will never forget. A powerfully under-toned movie with a simple message, and a simple delivery that is simply outstanding.

Interesting atmosphere, but it all just meanders and goes nowhere.

The film has a nice start. VERY NICE. Very funny with the scene in the lycee francais where they have to sing the national anthem of france and the boys goes up on the balconny and starts singing the lebanese one with a speaker. and everyone follows. But unfortunatally the movie doesnt keep the good start, but has an overall greatness!

It's a good individual movie. Teenager actors with talents, full of humor, sadness of reality..etc
