Marco L @decatur555 1d The third season of Alpha Males works because its four protagonists are not monsters or simple caricatures: they are middle-aged men trying, usually badly, to understand a world that has changed faster than they have. The Caballeros use masculinity, relationships, feminism and changing social rules as comedy first and social commentary second, avoiding the feeling of a weekly lecture. Gorka Otxoa, Fernando Gil, Raúl Tejón and Fele Martínez have terrific chemistry, while the women are wisely allowed to be just as contradictory and imperfect. Not every exaggerated gag lands, but the best ones work because beneath them lies something recognizable: people learning new vocabulary while still operating with old instincts. You laugh at them, and occasionally realize you have done something very similar yourself. See more Katie M @Secularhellhound May 20 As the show progresses, some characters grow more likeable while others grow less likeable. I find myself surprised how this shifts from the first season. All of them remain quite flawed and highlight how societal gender pressure harms everyone and their relationships. I continue to appreciate the bond shared by these people and how these friends remain connected. Especially considering the research and concerns indicating many men feel disconnected and reports they feel lacking in high quality relationships. The friendships in the show are complicated and imperfect but it’s nice to see a portrayal of male friends sticking with each other and not disconnecting and dropping out. Even Blanca isn’t quite as bad and I wish she was off the show as well. Still love the guys but the back and forth with multiple relationships for some of them is getting old.
