The man behind the acclaimed HBO series "Summer Heights High" returns to the network to explore what it means to be a 21st-century male. In "Angry Boys," creator and writer Chris Lilley uses his chameleonlike talents to star as the mock-documentary's six main characters: identical teenage twins Daniel and Nathan Sims, who live in south Australia; the twins' no-nonsense grandmother, Ruth, aka "Gran"; Los Angeles rapper S.mouse; soft-spoken Japanese mother Jen Okazaki, who manages her son's skateboarding career; and former world champion surfer Blake Oakfield. The edgy comedy series looks at the lives, dreams and aspirations of average boys and men as they encounter daily struggles to satisfy obligations to family and friends. Lilley, a native of Sydney, Australia, first introduced the characters of Daniel and Nathan in the 2005 miniseries "We Can Be Heroes."

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Chris Lilley's comedic sensibility is unique, but too often Angry Boys resorts to juvenile, politically incorrect jokes that are more uncomfortable than illuminating.

His wavelength is extreme narrowcasting, and most viewers are likely to find Angry Boys just rambling and dull. Go to Full Review

The expansion emphasizes the sameness of his writing and his performances, and makes the payoffs of the jokes feel small. Go to Full Review

LEON W @RT77803055 07/24/2024 Absolutely incredible TV show to watch Chris Lily is a great comedian must watch TV show The comedy is very down to earth, has amazing jokes and character development, especially for the Australian people, but it's not tailored for American and British viewers, whatever they say is not as impactful as most because it's not based around their cultures and humour levels are like regular sitcoms, they just won't understand the jokes.
