Gavia Baker-Whitelaw The Daily Dot 08/10/2020
4.5/5
Openly fantastical, the kissing sickness is more fairytale than science fiction, and although this is a contemporary story, the reactions of the townspeople feel timeless. Go to Full Review
David Opie Digital Spy 08/10/2020
While tensions rise on a wider scale, Kissing Game also takes time to explore love and sexuality too, most notably with the blue-haired Chico. Go to Full Review

'Kissing Game' would have alienated more viewers but a mystery virus killing people seems all too familiar and chillingly real in the times we live in. Go to Full Review
Jonathon Wilson Ready Steady Cut 08/10/2020
3.5/5
A recommendation might be a bit strong since it's a weird, not particularly mainstream show, but a cautious suggestion to have a look in its direction won't hurt anyone. Pass it on. Go to Full Review
Joel Keller Decider 08/10/2020
Kissing Game may not be your thing, but the first episode does set up an intriguing mystery, and the performances are all very good. Go to Full Review
Alison de Souza The Straits Times (Singapore) 08/10/2020

This stylish, well-acted drama manages to just about avoid some of the more obvious teen-spirit cliches, even though its conclusion is a little corny. Go to Full Review

mic t @MicThom 11/27/2022 Interesting, strange, but enjoyable. It will keep you wondering what the heck is going on. There are several interesting characters, and the story has plenty of twists and turns. See more Aaron L @RT55567649 05/11/2022 An underappreciated Netflix film that knows how to make its audience uncomfortable in an entertaining way. See more 08/23/2020 Unique, visually stunning, queer in every sense of the word: this is not your average Netflix teen show or regular pandemic story. The setting in a Brazilian cattle ranch town is interesting and from the beginning the show manages through its visuals and a few poignant scenes to create the oppressive atmosphere the teenagers live in and to give a sense of the underlying power structures and class issues through the episodes. While bad things happen all around (there is a virus after all) the life-affirming core of the story is about friendship, love and accepting yourself. The acting is good all around with Michel Joelsas (Chico) standing out and Denise Fraga (Guiomar, the school director) as well. Family relationships, social media use and the teenagers' reaction to the virus are all portrayed realistically and keep the series grounded even though 1 or 2 plot points seem far fetched (and one definitely would have needed better cgi). Personally, I don't think these plot points are unrealistic though if you see the virus as allegorical which I believe it is meant to be. The soundtrack is great, I've been listening to it a lot after watching the series. I can only recommend his show to anyone, especially everyone who is queer/LGBTQ* or who wants to watch something a bit different. See more Read all reviews
