This Netflix original series follows college football teams that aren't major programs and don't get much national attention. After a couple seasons of profiling recruits at East Mississippi Community College, which has won several NJCAA national titles, the reality series shifts its focus to Independence Community College. The Kansas school doesn't have the same type of gridiron pedigree as EMCC -- it's trying to rebound from more than a decade of losses -- but the players are dealing with many of the same challenges that the EMCC squad faced -- both on and off the field.

Fine, there's the odd bit of ball-throwing in the mix: but I guarantee you'll be too emotional to notice. Much. Go to Full Review

One final note. Last Chance U is a peculiar subgenre of TV, somewhere between a sensitive documentary, a Bravo docusoap, and a reality competition series...stunningly well-made. Go to Full Review

As many of these men have one eye on the future, Last Chance U excels at understanding that pull while keeping a sharp focus on the present. Go to Full Review

What Season 3 of Last Chance U does tell us is that winning doesn't cure all, but it can exasperate problems that are not addressed properly. After all, loveable losers and envied winners aren't always the most interesting stories in sports. Go to Full Review

03/18/2021 This series on Independence College was depressing and very sad. Unlike the seasons on Laney College and East LA in basketball, these young men are being used in the machine of the almighty dollar by coaches, boosters, the school administration, and four year football colleges. Some of the players will benefit, but many more will fail in a system that doesn't care about them. The facade of "student athlete" should be dropped and a degree should be awarded in simply, "football". Most of these young men are not properly prepared academically for a junior college degree, and take classes just to fulfill the academic requirement. The classroom scenes show other students trying to learn while most exhausted and uninterested football players snooze. It is truly is a farce. Let JUCO admit that they are ripping these men out of a culture they understand just to win football games. Heartbreaking. When did junior college, the last hope of low income students for a solid college degree, sell their soul for dollars? See more 08/10/2020 Still quite entertaining but the white trash coach is just really off putting. I could never hear "smack them in the mouth" again and die happy. That said, same structure as first two seasons and works very well. Boy, football players sure are babied. Hmm... See more 08/03/2018 Another good season. Possibly not quite as fleshed out on players as last one, but still quite in-depth and reflective. See more 08/01/2018 Season 3 of Last Chance U was very similar in format to the past two seasons which were fabulous. I was very disappointed to see how the coach verbally abused his players. It made me cringe to hear his explicit language directed to the team. I love Last Chance U. The stories of the players backgrounds give us insight in how and why they are there. I would have loved to have seen season 3 with a more inspirational leader. Coach JB may have helped the team win some games, but his language and belittling of his players made season 3 hard to watch. See more 07/27/2018 This show is awful!!!! See more 07/27/2018 You have to get past the first episode, and then it gets really good. See more Read all reviews
