Louie is a part-time mechanic with little to no ambition. He's married to full-time nurse and family breadwinner Kim; together, they're raising a little girl. Additionally, Louie has an eccentric circle of friends that keeps him and his wife on their proverbial toes.

Critics Consensus

Lucky Louie yearns desperately to achieve "edgy family sitcom" status, but gets hopelessly lost along the way.

It's as if HBO has bought into the misconception that the only difference between it and the networks is dirtiness. Go to Full Review

It's sadder than a regular sitcom, bleaker certainly and more racy, but even though it was supposed to subvert the sitcom norms, it doesn't really. Go to Full Review

Louis C.K. plays the part without any pretense and lets the sharp writing stand out... But the real catalyst of the show is the actress Pamela Adlon, who turns the role of the put-upon TV comedy wife on its head. Go to Full Review

Perhaps it was misunderstood, but Lucky Louie definitely had something. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

It's impossible to get past the nervous laughter to something more transcendent. Lucky Louie can fill a room with dread and regret, but that's the last thing a sitcom should want to do. Go to Full Review

Petros T @PetrosTserpelis 11/26/2018 I'm a huge fan of Louis C.K. the stand-up comedian and seeing him in a sitcom setting has its pros and cons. The characters are a lot of fun and the way Louis's humour blends with the everyday-life incidents that make up the plot results in some great comedic moments. The best episodes are the ones where his politically incorrect comedy is paired with realistic characterization - unlike the one and only season's second half, which veered a little too much towards harmless sitcom territory. See more 09/21/2018 So sad this was cancelled after only one season. Lucky Louie is a great adult comedy! Apparently the review aggregates only gave it 47% ... which Rotten Tomatoes "Critics" also give it - though actual viewers give it 100% On IMDB almost 9000 viewers there have given it an average of 8/10. Producers need to start listening to their audiences and not paid critics. (An example of a movie made for the critics instead of the audience is "Star Wars: The Last Jedi"). Tip for Studio execs: The industry's Critics may give you awards for your mantle, but nowadays (with social media giving a vast reach for word-of-mouth opinions) they don't fill your seats or buy your merchandise!
