A unique series that kept me guessing until the end, "Memories of the Alhambra" starts off with a strong, intriguing premise: A videogame developer has created an AR game where players interact seamlessly with medieval warriors. Go to Full Review

Despite the great visuals from Grenada, the acting is a bit broad and the corporate intrigue piece isn't interesting enough to wade through the silliness and get to the meat of the story. Go to Full Review

On screen, the mainly Spain-set Alhambra created by Jinnie Choi and Lee Ayung-han has a certain charm that can best be described as partially Crazy Rich Asians meets Ready Player One, for better and worse. Go to Full Review

Jessica T @RT41036073 Jun 22 I went into this drama thinking I’d casually watch one or two episodes before bed. Fast forward 6 hours, my face is greasy, I’m dehydrated, and I’m Googling flights to Granada to see if Jin-woo needs backup. Let’s talk about it. Plot? INSANE. You think it’s just a regular K-drama? Wrong. It’s a virtual-reality-action-romance-sci-fi-thriller-historical-mystery genre smoothie and I drank the entire thing in one sitting. There’s augmented reality, sword fights in broad daylight, hotel conspiracies, missing siblings, and guitar melodies that will haunt you in the shower. Hyun Bin? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? He really acted like his life (and mine) depended on it. Running through European streets with a digital sword, looking like James Bond fell into a video game. He said, “I don’t need sleep. I need revenge and Wi-Fi.” Park Shin-hye? Elegant, tragic, and constantly confused—but honestly, same girl. She was holding that entire hotel, family trauma, and the plot on her back. She deserved more screen time and at least one less traumatic phone call. The game? 10/10 would NOT play. I would die at level one tripping over a cobblestone. But still—absolutely fascinating. I want a headset, but also, I value my life. The ending? Was that an ending or did the writers just drop the mic and walk off into the Alhambra sunset?? I have questions. So many questions. I’m filing a formal request for Season 2 and possibly a group therapy session for the fandom. Final thoughts? This show will have you questioning what’s real, emotionally unstable over digital NPCs, and aggressively humming Spanish guitar music for weeks. 12/10. Would recommend. Will never recover. See more Karl S @RT59437596 03/06/2023 Great idea bogged down by lack of editing. I wasn't sure how many previous scenes I needed to watch to get to the new scenes. If they just ended this without repeating scenes it would have been a spectacular show. See more 02/06/2022 the one star is only because I think the main actor did a great job portraying his character - but even then he could not save the very very VERY excruciatingly terrible plot. SO MANY PLOTHOLES! so many things left unexplained and writer seemed to think that just because you classify a show's genre as "sci-fi" there's no need to explain why things happen??? What messy sloppy and lazy writing is this? I'm amazed this was approved and allowed to be in production. The show's theme and plot about the video game could have been done so well if creatives had given more respect to the audience and given reasons for all the problems in the game but they decided to just allow it to be a "mystery"?? extremely lazy technique and very disrespectful to the fans/ audience. The romance plots was UNNECESSARY and in the end frustrated me so much because it was not crucial at all to the outcomes of any part in the show. Cut out the romance and just focus on the technical parts of the game. Wasted Hyun Bin's talent on such horrible story writing. Also leading actress is way too young to have been a match for the main actor- their romance and chemistry was not believable at all, please only cast age appropriate actors together, it was like watching a young woman having a fantasy crush on her Uncle. Also the fact that they very specifically chose Granada as the place to focus on, the plot didn't even necessarily need to be in Spain. This could have easily began in Seoul or anywhere else... they seemed to have just picked Alhambra solely as some location tour partnership or something. Nothing about culture of the location made any real impact to the movie at all... they only tried at the end with some references to the Hand of Fatima etc... which could easily be replaced with something else. Wasted production. See more 07/18/2021 What began as an intriguing premise falls apart somewhere along the way. The two leads are essentially wasted. There is almost no character development and a plot that promises much more than it eventually delivers. I hung in there till the last episode, hoping for at least a satisfying ending, but I felt cheated and disappointed. The imagery of Jesus on the cross, with the lead character apparently sacrificing himself to save the world from a dangerous computer game might have been acceptable in an over-the-top sort of way in a better show, but the lack of depth in the roles and plot line made the whole thing ridiculous. I regret having wasted all that time watching this! Two stars for good production values but that's about it. See more 01/06/2021 This drama is very unique with the use of videogames as a centre point of the drama. Hyun Bin and Park Shin Bye have great chemistry and give great performances. The plot is also greatly interesting. This TV show also made me want to go to Alhambra because they displayed it so beautifully.
