Jack the Ripper was a serial killer who butchered a number of women in and around the Whitechapel District of London in 1888. This drama begins about six months after the final murder, with now-peaceful East London hoping that the reign of terror is over. Among the hopeful are members of H Division, the police precinct tasked with keeping order in the district, including Detective Inspector Edmund Reid, a forward-thinking detective haunted by a past mistake that ended in tragedy. While trying to keep order in the chaotic streets of Whitechapel, Reid is soon drawn into the seedy criminal underworld of Victorian London, where each new murder elicits fear that the Ripper may be back.

Warlow and co have unleashed something truly ambitious, gutsy and full of imaginative flourishes. Go to Full Review

If the energy and subtlety can be maintained, this series of Ripper Street will delight audiences even more than the last. Go to Full Review

The narrative is leaner and the writing feels more precise, leaning on the emotional relationships involved within the case, rather than the politics that fuels it. Go to Full Review

The show's greatest strength is to avoid direct reference to the killings as an investigative project and to treat them as traumatic events from which its characters are trying to recover. Go to Full Review

Betty B @Betty1977 Aug 31 Couldn't believe that Inspector Reid had the capacity to kill anorher human, let alone get away with it...no matter the circumstances. This series really propelled into the dark abyss...Susan's character development was especially disappionting. Overall, nearly all characters lost their appeal, cannot get onboard with any of them, don't really care what happens to them now. Moral and ethical ground zero See more 05/29/2015 This show falls nothing short of grabbing a hold of the viewers and dragging them right into the storyline as it portrays. Each episode is as good as the last and leaves you yearning for the next one. See more 05/27/2015 I can't find fault with any of BBC's offerings, and Ripper Street, going on its 3rd Season, has held me fast. This is a great crime and punishment series. Set back in time in England, their villains and their detectives are interesting and not the usual one dimensional entities so frequently portrayed in American film. See more 01/10/2015 I didn't think any show could outdo Game of Thrones. Ripper Street and in particular, seasons two and three demolished that idea. I was never as heavily invested in a TV series s this. The writing is almost Shakespearean at times, the acting; gritty and sublime and my emotional meter beat like a parade drum. Holy moly, this is a lesson on how to create great drama. See more 01/04/2015 Without doubt the very BEST scripted, acted and directed TV series in decades. MORE wanted ! See more 01/02/2015 One of the three best things I watched on the small screen in 2014, along with Channel 4's Fargo and season two of Peaky Blinders. Beautifully written and acted with nary a misstep in any of the eight episodes, and a thunderous, exciting, and satisfying finale. Thank goodness it survived the BBC axe! See more Read all reviews
