The journey is what matters, as they say, and this journey is a hell of a good time.

As the mystery deepens, the kind of kid who's maybe just a little too young for Stranger Things is just the right age for this appealingly weird series.

Unlike many tween/teen shows, the plot of The Hollow, written by Vito Viscomi (Nerds and Monsters) is one that adults can watch and get into.

For the mystery and the payoff alone, The Hollow is worth a watch.

Audience Reviews for The Hollow: Season 1

I liked the show a lot it was kinda really great, about the animation and the story-line mainly it really held up with it's characters the most I liked the one from the other kids with a skull print t-shirt

It's not Adventure Time, and definitely not Rick & Morty, but it has some personality and it's fast fun.

Positives: I appreciated the way each episode keeps you begging to watch the next! The voice acting is really well done and the overarching plot is synchronized well. Music choices are also done nicely. The audience follows the characters viewpoint, which keeps you guessing and empathetic to the cast. Negatives: The character development is awkward at times and doesn't ever seem to be resolved. The animation is a weaker element, but it could be argued this fits the nature of the series to not distract from the plot. The dialogue seems unsure who its true audience is, as it swings from more childish at times to more deliberate and deep at other times. Likewise, the attempted humour tend to fall flat. Summary: I found this mini-series a nice break from the onslaught of never-ending shows that drag us season through season before revealing major plot pieces and run out of meaningful content early on. I highly doubt there will be a continuation of this series, but that's probably best, given the style of the ending and the theme of the show itself. I would recommend this watch to someone in desire of a low-commitment series and as more enjoyable when watched with others to discuss theories, questions, etc. along the way. Overall, this is a victory for the "Slap Happy Cartoons" animation company.

My best friend and I binged this show in less than twenty-four hours, creating our own guesses and conspiracies as we watched. Although it was great for the most part, I think I speak for both of us when I say that the ending was its downfall.

This series has quickly become my favorite thing to watch on Netflix. Not only does it remind me a lot of Gravity Falls but it also has a fun adventure that just draws the viewer in with every episode. There's some moments where the dialogue can get awkward but the voice actors do a fantastic job portraying their characters. I really hope there's a 2nd season because Netflix might give Gravity Falls a run for their money if they keep it up.
