Janet, a foul-mouthed Belfast supermarket worker, encounters Seamus under unusual circumstances. In complete opposition to her, he lives a London life, works as a political broadcaster, and has a celebrity girlfriend. Despite the apparent gulf in experiences between them, the two find themselves unexpectedly falling for each other. As their extraordinary relationship develops, they must each contend with a wide range of difficulties that stem from the extreme differences in their backgrounds and lives.

The show acts like it’s better than the traditional rom-com by forcing its leads to constantly confront something terrible about themselves or each other, effectively nullifying the rare moments of romance that we actually get to experience.
