I also appreciate the multiethnic cast in a period piece, Bridgerton paved the way with this and I think it is only a positive thing. I rarely watch anything more than once but I have watched this several times now. Thank you BBC! I am looking forward to the Christmas special there is rumoured to be! I also didn’t like the fact that Mr. Hayward suddenly got separated from his fiancé and things just randomly started falling into place. It would have been nice if there was some effort from Mary’s part as well to fight for her own life and her own choices. See more Cujari T @RT32829637 Sep 18, 2026 I really wanted to like this more than I did. It was a little hard to get into and immerse myself in the world in the first couple episodes. With how different some of the details and characters were, it felt like the writer read P&P once a long time ago and forgot some details. Jane isn't nearly as sweet, Mrs. Bennet is mean and unlikeable with zero redeeming qualities, Charlotte comes off very conniving, Mary wasn't nearly as proud, etc. In the 3rd episode (SPOILER), Jane invites Mrs. Bennet and Mary to come stay with them in Netherfield, but by this point they should be living near the Darcies. It does get better and I like a lot of the new characters. It has its own charm and some really cute and funny moments. It's still worth a watch but not something I'd come back to and rewatch again. Such a rarity to see an "ugly duckling" trope done with such nuance and, if I may say so, right. The show felt consistently strong and endlessly captivating thanks to the incredible performance of the main cast who share such strong chemistry. And so many fresh and non-instagram faces in my period drama? Yes, please! Overall a beautiful story of love, self-acceptance and courage to be yourself. They’ve taken out quite a chunk in the middle but I remember that part being quite depressing so perhaps that was on purpose. I love everything about it - the casting, the production design, the score, the subtle and evocative storytelling.
