See more anna S @AnnaKS 22h This really is a wonderful new period drama with its feet grounded in the style, yet the writing and character choices and direction bringing so much humour and lightness. The casting is spot on with Ella Bruccoleri as Mary, she is so perfect for this role and just exists in this world so naturally, even though she is regarded as the black sheep of the family. This story of the underdog is carefully balanced and not overly romanticised. The energy never drops and the direction from Jennifer Sheridan is fantastic, it comes through in the connection the characters have on screen and how easy it is to watch, I binged the first 5 episodes and can’t wait for the rest! Ruth Jones and Ryan Sampson are a joy to watch, two of the UKs best comedy actors. It’s hard to compare this to anything as it has such a unique style in the writing, tone and direction.
