What to Know

Critics Consensus

As made evident in Interview with the Vampire, Sam Reid perfectly embodies this luridly divine undead Frenchman, but The Vampire Lestat makes him a snarling, campy, and utterly magnetic star who unapologetically commands your attention.

A rich continuation of the Anne Rice universe, The Vampire Lestat emerges as a spellbinding entry pulsating with exquisite chaos and gothic despair.

Beyond all this is his afterlife’s driving existential question. “Why do I actively, manically pursue failure?” he asks. The show leaves this open, which is fine by me. I’d happily tag along for more delirious seasons as he searches for answers. Go to Full Review

It’s rare to find television bold enough to commit as fully as “The Vampire Lestat” does, and rarer still to see a performer as magnetic and multifaceted as Reid to carry it through. Go to Full Review

If the project of “Interview With the Vampire” was to make these interactions legible for those of us with finite lifespans, “The Vampire Lestat” adds a new weapon to that arsenal, one that lands with all the force of a stake through the heart. Go to Full Review

The Vampire Lestat is a bit of a left turn in the Interview With The Vampire story, but it’s campy fun with good music and a Lestat that is funnier the more seriously he takes himself. Go to Full Review

If there's one thing that stands out about the series, it's its brilliant ability to blend much of the book's dark and twisted power with a bold, contemporary energy within the same setting to create its own mythology. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Roxaane W @Roxane994 2h At first, I wasn't so sure about the tone shift of the season, but this season is absolutely amazing. See more Elle T @RT87266158 3h Thrilling and unexpected, even as someone who has read the books! For their sublime performances, Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson deserve serious Emmy consideration. See more Janine K @RT85943002 5h From where we came from this was a miss. So many amazing scenes but no actual story See more Matthew B @MCMC246 5h Lestat is an irreverant, choppy, loud, overstimulating, defensive and unreliable narrator. After Louis who was poignant, poetic, lingering, meaningful, open and reflective - if also unreliable in his own way - that change is jarring. But I stuck with it, and by episode 4 I found myself being rewarded with all the insight, melodrama, and character payoffs any fan of the first two seasons craves. This is still a deliciously clever and well crafted show. Even if the style has somewhat moved away from what I loved most about the first two seasons. See more Cherry S @GothicMusings 7h The grace and beauty of the original two seasons are missing. The wonderful thing about the Gothic genre is that it's always in conversation with the social anxieties of its time and is very aware of the sociopolitical world. The first two seasons capture this masterfully. Meanwhile, for some reason, this season felt very devoid of that. It was also very rushed, like they were running out of time. Not sure what happened with this one. See more Carp L @RT71522294 9h On a technical level this season is inferior to the previous two in almost every conceivable way. It’s hard to understand how it has received positive acclaim at all, let alone surpassed its predecessors. These actors are incredible but are each underutilized to an insulting degree and can only do so much with what they’re given (truly terrible scripts and what appears to be a total lack of direction.) It is clear something significant has changed behind the scenes this season, not only in title. The respect and care that was once put into this story and these characters is so lacking it often feels like a mockery of the audience’s previous warm reception to them. Major struggles with pacing and tone, dragging musical numbers that serve no narrative purpose, character choices that make no sense and are boring above all else. Just an excruciating watch.
