Alain E @AlainE Mar 7 Quite simplistic unfortunately. Cinematography is good and of course the Nordic environment is attractive. But the story fails to generate real anxiety. In the first episode the female journalist is on the phone with a colleague while she is driving. The call ends abruptly and we are under the impression that something happened to her, but actually is the other guy. She then disappears herself. Then, in the beginning of the second episode her body appears on the water. Several people enter in the sea and strangely allow the elderly journalist to approach the body alone and then also by himself bring it out on the beach. Earlier we had learned that he is actually her estranged father. Anyway, none of this sounds believable. On Viaplay. The Faroes location is stunning and lends itself well to a lot of small-town moments. The protagonist is kind of a restatement of the Mikael Blomkvist investigative journalist archetype. Perhaps this series isn't as un-ambiguously on his side, though; while usually right, he also has a reckless side which puts loved ones in danger. He is also not very savvy about confronting the bad guy. The twist on police corruption -- it seems to be bad at the top, with one non-corrupt local chief fighting the good fight, until that's not quite it either -- is also an interesting twist on the usual trope. Will be hoping for season 2! See more Read all reviews
