Des Bishop
Irish-American comedian Des Bishop was born on November 12, 1975 with the full name Desmond Ryan Bishop. He was raised in New York until he moved to Ireland as a teenager. He began performing stand-up comedy in the late 1990s and gained popularity in Ireland with the mini-series "The Des Bishop Work Experience" (RTÉ Two, 2004). Bishop had a desire to gain fluency in the Irish language and documented his efforts on the series "In the Name of the Fada" (RTÉ One, 2008). The series culminated in a 60 minute stand-up routine that Bishop performed entirely in Irish, earning him an Irish Film and Television Award (IFTA). Building off that success, he made the bold decision to travel to China to immerse himself in the culture and learn to speak fluent Mandarin. He documented the 18-month experience in the series "Breaking China" (RTÉ One, 2014). In addition to his numerous stand-up comedy specials and documentaries, Bishop participated in the Irish version of "Dancing with the Stars" (RTÉ One, 2017- ) for its first season, finishing in 8th place. In 2021, Des Bishop's personal life and professional life merged on the Bravo series "Summer House" (Bravo 2017- ) when he got engaged and married to American reality star Hannah Berner.
