A gothic tale with roots deep in Shelly's Frankenstein. Bai takes the part that most adaptations toss out, the moral education of the monster, and puts it front and center. Go to Full Review

Logan D Apr 15 After a scientist (Stephen Galaida) creates a robotic look alike, the automaton begins to develop emergent intelligence and emotions. Intriguing concept based on Frankenstein that is sadly marred by the flat acting of its lead. Still, I enjoyed seeing a film endeavoring to be substantial instead of fluffy. See more 05/25/2018 Excellent dystopic cuberpunl film. See more 10/08/2015 Not only does Puzzlehead appear to be set in a dystopia, it looks as if it were filmed in one. As an indie sci-fi movie it is excellent and the filmmakers do a great job of making virtues out of necessities (e.g. make the wooden acting and the low budget a part of the odd and dystopic vibe). While the scoring was surprisingly well-done, overall the sound is poor (as other reviewers have noted). Puzzlehead is not a great film but is great for what it is and I admire the spirit put into it. See more 09/19/2015 Slow moving Pacific-Northwesty version of people trading places, like in "Performance". See more 08/24/2013 It is rare i find a film that has me hooked & gives you no time at all to think & lose interest for even a second 'Puzzlehead' is most definitely one of these films. It is dark unflinching mostly original science fiction genius in my humble opinion of James Bai's excellent film. In a post apocalyptic future where the use of technology is banned in this some would say re-imagining of Frankenstein, also cleverly narrated by lead character Walter(Stephen Galaida)who creates a robotic clone of himself named Puzzlehead(also playe by Stephen Galaida) for basic household chores.....the robot becomes more adventurous & builds (unplanned by his creator) memories & emotions that lead to obvious conflict between the two caused by the entrance into the fold of Julia(Robbie Shapiro)whom is lusted after in different ways painfully slowly by Walter & then Puzzlehead that lead to deathly consequences!! It is difficult to review this film without delving deeper & creating spoilers which are the part of reading reviews i dislike but i will stop there apart from urging people to watch this very impressive indie that was done with a very small budget that makes it even more impressive. Cult status it will no doubt have now or in near future should be enjoyed by you all. See more 09/02/2012 Great idea of a man, his machine and the love interest they both share but the acting is a bit rough and the dialogue is flat. Not bad for an independant production of what is basically a long Twilight Zone episode. See more Read all reviews
