The plot is minimal, but the film feels real because of its natural dialogue and relatable moments. The pacing is extremely slow and requires full attention to stay engaged. The acting is great, with both leads delivering natural and believable performances. The music is average and does not stand out much. The ending is feel-good with a slight cliffhanger, leaving you thinking about what happens next. When I watched it more than a decade ago, I really, really liked it, but I didn't think it was the masterpiece it is. I can also see a number of reasons why I didn't get into it in the beginning, and a lot of reasons I am loving it way more this time. Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy really bring those characters to life in so many subtle ways, a myriad of body language cues that turn this movie magical. Linklater is a brilliant writer-director, but credit has to be given to Kim Krizan as well as the actors who supposedly rewrote a whole lot of the dialogue. See more Mariana T @M.Tezeta Jan 27 I don't know what it is about this film that's so mesmerizing: - The simplicity of the story: a simple premise, yet developed with such passion. - An impeccable script: from the very first line of dialogue (which was in German and I didn't understand), I was captivated by the introspective and intelligent conversations. - The characters: Hawk and Delpy bring to life likeable young people in just the right measure. You know how this story is going to end, but you stay to suffer with them, because you know that a part of you (a very hidden part) believes there will be a future for them both. In short, it's a cheesy film, so what? It's so much more than that... The beautiful landscapes of Paris, the glimpse into the future of youth, the unwavering faith in love, an introspective walk, beauty in simplicity... all of this makes it a film worth watching.
