a pleasant blast from the past with outstanding picture and sound 4k bluray upgrade quality making it feel like it was filmed this year. Finally getting to experience in the theatre first time ever having not been able to in my early childhood. Great way to celebrate the 30th anniversary on JB 007 day!

GoldenEye's biggest strength is that it doesn't feel like a reboot, rather a continuation of the James Bond story. The opening scene feels like a continuation of Dr. No. Pierce Brosnan was great, the Sean Bean twist was expected, the tank chase scene was a bit over the top and the gadgets were fun. All in all, I found myself really enjoying this one. Best Character: Boris Best Quote: "I am invincible!" - Boris Best Scene: The Satellite Fight Best Piece of Score: "For Ever, James" (Honorable mention to "Pause Screen" from the N64 game) Note: I don't know why, but James Bond is an iPad type of movie.

Bringing 007 to the blockbuster age in style, GoldenEye might be one of the more introspective films in the franchise but on the whole, it succeeds at what it sets out to do: showing that there is a place for James Bond in the post-Cold War landscape. Featuring a perfectly cast Pierce Brosnan, great villains, fun action scenes + breathtaking stunts (Casino Royale, from the same director, would fare better regarding the former, however), a compelling story and a good blend of humour (I certainly wasn't expecting THAT to be 007's introduction to this Bond Girl), suspense and even nightmare fuel. There are some silly moments but those shouldn't distract you from the fact that this is still a fun film that started Brosnan's tenure on the right foot, revitalised the franchise and may have even been responsible for the spy genre making a proper comeback. Still think Martin Campbell did a better job with Casino Royale but that could just be me being biased since Daniel Craig was my first 007.
