Matthew R Aug 15 teenage religious folderal. barf. See more 06/21/2019 Truly a "coming of age" story told through the eyes, heart and spirit of a young, BLACK, girl. Oh it's so great to see more of these real life experiences reflected on screen. Nijla did something incredibly beautiful with this film; she tapped into a very specific human experience in such a tender and real way. I think a lot of us can see, hear and feel ourselves in summer, and that's what makes this film special. I hope more see it; so many need to see this! From the complicated mother-daughter relationship to Zoe Renee's turn as Summer (she's smart, funny, determined) to the cinematography and realistic dialogue, I really enjoyed this movie. The struggles of any teenager determining who she is, what she wants within the dynamics of family and friends. Highly recommend.
