...[Mike Birbiglia: The Good Life] is a joy, because while he tackles complex issues – like not wanting to be a father and not really liking his own father – Birbiglia can’t help delivering life-affirming, optimistic messages. Go to Full Review

It’s the kind of comedy almost any parent with kids over five can relate to. It’s stand-up perfection. And Good Life is as close to it as I’ve heard in a long while. Go to Full Review

The stakes feel somehow more vital as the comedian confronts his father’s mortality, his own inadequacies as a father, and a chance meeting with the Holy Father of the Roman Catholic Church. Go to Full Review

Dave C. @DaveCanan Nov 19 I could watch this again and again ! As he states in the special, this is the best. See more Ka G Jun 8 Poetic, laugh outoud funny and relatable. A must watch stand up special. 10/10! See more Nihan A May 28 I love his style of calm and thoughtful insights, funny but sincere emotion. And the topics are universally human. I so enjoy his specials, i go back and rewatch them. This was superb! See more May 27 Mike Birbiglia is masterful at creating a very real, personal connection with his audience, whether that means in real life or through a screen, and The Good Life is no exception. This particular special is won’t make you laugh during the entire performance; that is not what Mr. Birbiglia intended with The Good Life. While it is funny, and its comedy certainly adds to its enjoyment (especially at the beginning), it’s enjoyable because it is deep, it is meaningful, and it makes you really think about life, religion, and family. This special is reminiscent of the standup that shot Tig Notaro into fame because of its handling of serious topics and its expansion of comedy as something more than a vessel for getting cheap laughs. See more Kate G May 27 This brought me joy, made me think and touched my heart. He is a comedy master and so very likable. I felt like I just spent an hour with a pretty amazing human. Great way to end a holiday weekend. Thanks, Mike! See more Steve W May 27 Been waiting for this, and really enjoyed it like his other specials. He tiptoes through some challenging topics, but also hits some weighty areas. I love his style and pace of comedy. See more Read all reviews
