This is a kid's film; everything else is a bonus to keep the adults entertained. That this bonus is a heartfelt homage to cinema, Hollywood's Golden Age, and the romanticised notion of the studio system is a pleasant surprise. [Full review in Spanish].

The screenplay as well as the direction convey this genuine affection for the art of movie making and cinema history. When you really stop to think about it, the pairing of the Minions with silent era Hollywood actually makes perfect sense.

This movie was a complete waste of money. They had so much to live up to, especially with the previous movies setting such a high standard, and somehow they managed to throw all of that away. The story felt rushed and uninspired, the jokes didnt land nearly as often as they used to, and a lot of the charm that made the earlier movies so enjoyable was missing. It seemed like they relied too much on familiar characters without giving them anything interesting to do. The pacing was all over the place, and by the end I was just waiting for it to be over. It honestly felt like a missed opportunity, because this could have been something great if more effort had gone into the writing and the overall story. I went in excited and left disappointed. Definitely not worth the ticket price.
