Michael C @Michael71 1 day ago When watching the final scene of "Genius" (A then eleven-year-old Ron Howard.) in his lab I found out what inspired Martin Hanford to create "Were's Waldo?" ("Where's Wally?" overseas.). "Village of the Giants" is mediocre to say the least. Dull with flat performances and way too many bad jokes and needlessly drawn-out scenes (Especially the scene where the Giants are introduced to the citizens of the fictional town of Hainesville, California where the movie is set. The scenes of the giants dancing felt longer than "The Godfather; The Complete Epic".). Ron Howard gives the best performance in the film. Everybody else is just phoning it in. While it may be nice to see Beau Bridges and Tim Rooney in early roles, "Village of the Giants" is not worth your time. The HG Wells story "The Food of the Gods" was the basis for this movie. Skip this and instead see the 1976 film adaptation of the story starring the late Marjoe Gortner. Not perfect, but much better movie. The opening credits are a trip, with monochromatic shots of the dancers before transitioning to the opening scene, where a group of young adults exits a car crash during a torrential downpour. At the same time, it is a bright, sunny day, and the group proceeds to dance and laugh in a mud-caked pigsty that would make a pig jealous. The movie is so horrendously cheesy that it's like watching a car crash, and I cannot look away. And the cherry on top would be seeing "Lloyd from The Shining" appearing here as the town sheriff.
