10/31/2011 Unforgettable performances from Keanu Reeves & Tracy Gordon... See more 04/14/2011 delightful with an adorable young Keanu Reeves See more 07/17/2010 In some ways better than the remake (17 Again), in some ways worse. It was probably a clearer, better story with less inclination to go for the easy joke, but (not as a consequence, for other reasons) it isn't as funny as the later film. I don't know. The ending was disappointing and dumb, but it did have a climax and a confrontation. 17 Again does not, which is the cardinal sin of these kinds of 'disguise' movies. Maybe I give this one the edge, if only it had less terrifying 80s dancing. And if the older Michael Riley weren't such an unlikable curmudgeon acting as if age 40 were age 60. Both movies have this problem, though, of the younger-in-appearance-only version of the protagonist being inexplicably nicer and more charming than the older version. It's in the writing, too, it's not a performance issue. Both of the young actors really did seem mature and out of place. I can buy that the older versions are bitter and they cheer up when their wishes comes true, but come on. I need a reason to root for the guy. He was just a self-involved jerk in this one and only a little bit better in the remake. See more Read all reviews
