12/15/2020 Still very well done but missing the vibe from the first two seasons. See more 02/22/2020 I've only seen the episode with the black chef in Savannah. If you're into oppression porn, you might enjoy it. ~"So much of Southern food came from Africans who were torn from their land, their language, ..." This episode wasn't an attempt at a balanced look at the cultural influences (Scottish, English, African, Native American) in creating Southern food. It's a story about a black woman who grew up in Savannah til the age of eleven, left, then came back as an adult for an opportunity to cook for a career. She gets to identify as a black person and feel a little indignant about the white tourists who want to have Southern food prepared by ~"a black person in the kitchen". Perish the thought. See more 03/27/2019 Another very strong season. Khan's episode is the highlight, relying on its story though filled with great direction and pacing. Cecchini's episode was hilarious yet thoughtful, while Brock's episode, which I watched last thinking I would end up hating to hear a sad story on rehab, was so emotionally moving and so well-paced, thanks in particular to Clay Jeter's direction. Surprisingly, Bailey's episode was the weakest for me. It had the best cinematography from all four of the episodes, and its story was compelling, but I personally felt it needed just a little bit more momentum to keep it going. See more Read all reviews
