Cooking shows are in no way my fav but I've been watching Dinnertime & I couldn't be more entertained! I just finished Tues Oct. 15 with all the pork. That looked sooo good! However, in the large majority of cooking-turned-reality-television — from the Ramsay archetype of an agro man-Karen Judge Judy-ing the food of common folk to over-edited, unrealistic, game show pomp — one would be hard-pressed to find much human connection beyond the media as momentary entertainment. ‘Dinner Time Live, with David Chang’ sets itself apart from other cooking shows by deliberately highlighting the awkward, imperfect, and often humorous moments that arise during such social interactions. This heirloom bouquet of expertise, ridiculousness, missteps, and spontaneous participatory processes is complemented, sparingly, by free-range micro-cringe (uncontrolled enough to provoke different ideas of taste, yet still nuanced and focused as to avoid offense).
