"The Impossible Astronaut" certainly started the season with a bang, throwing up any number of mysteries and plot threads to draw the audience into further episodes. I can't wait to see where the rest of the season takes us.

This is an exciting way to begin the series, but also a dark one.

One year in, Matt Smith is screwed into this role good and tight.

The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon launches series six like a rocket. It marks a return to proper, scary Doctor Who, leaves many tantalising threads dangling and ends on a dazzling cliffhanger.

Steven Moffat and the "Doctor Who" crew offer up yet another great episode with Toby Haynes behind the camera -- though the episode's big cliffhanger will likely cause more than a few fans' heads to explode.

Mar 5, 2019 | Full Review…

The fact that a show that's been running on-and-off for almost 50 years can still subvert expectations, and produce something as simultaneously shocking and thrilling as 'The Impossible Astronaut', is something for the Who team to be proud of.

By ramping up the action, adventure and scale to series finale proportions, the Doctor Who crew evade most of those pitfalls and tee things up for a series that could just be unlike any we've seen before.

Moffat does Moffat so well, there's definitely some good mileage left in his favourite tropes yet.

Audience Reviews for Doctor Who: Season 6

  • Feb 14, 2021
Better in comparison with the 5th season, the writing seems a bit too rushed but there are memorable episodes
  • Dec 29, 2020
Difficult season, maybe the writing it's not always the best, but stories are nice and well acted, so it's still a very good season to watch.
  • Nov 17, 2020
this is a pretty good season but not perfect containing episodes that I really don't like such as Night Terrors and one of my favourite episodes, a Good man goes to War and it has one of the best story arcs.
  • Oct 10, 2020
"Matt Smith is the best doctor. Sorry for those that disagree, but it's true. The best doctor and episodes. Steven Moffat is freakin fantastic." I wrote that a few years ago, and I still agree, but I had to lower the rating from 5 to 4 because of how crazy mixed this season is. It's wild that they go from "Day of the Moon" to "Curse of the Black Spot", a massive drop from perfect to terrible and a huge waste of Hugh Bonneville. The "Rebel Flesh" episodes were underwhelming but necessary, "A Good Man Goes to War" was stunning, "Let's Kill Hitler" was awesome, "Night Terrors" was sweet but lacking, "The God Complex" was psychologically good but otherwise mediocre, and the finale was mostly botched. Very, very mixed season, but featuring some very, very good episodes.

Great stories, and a great cast. One of the best seasons yet.
