Critic Reviews for Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 1

All Critics (10) | Top Critics (5)

You know, gangs, wise guys, mob bosses, in New York City. Unlike the other shows this weekend, this doesn't have many surprises.

Apr 2, 2021 | Full Review…

Worse, Organized Crime seems to misjudge the appeal of Law & Order altogether, and it does so in a way that only exacerbates the gap between now and the Stabler of old.

Apr 2, 2021 | Full Review…

Meloni's patented smile-stare is as effective as ever. And the action moved with a familiar Law & Order dispatch. Much of the [premiere], however, felt generic, cursorily plotted and filled out with thin and unconvincing characters

Apr 2, 2021 | Full Review…

Just like Stabler's getting accustomed to working with this team, Organized Crime is also trying out something new: more serialized storytelling.

Apr 2, 2021 | Rating: B- | Full Review…

While Meloni hasn't lost a step as the glaring, gruff and often over-the-line Elliot Stabler, the series premiere of Organized Crime was messy and frustrating, with few of the touches that identify it as a Law & Order spinoff.

Apr 2, 2021 | Rating: 2.5/4 | Full Review…

Making for a unique and fascinating entry in the Law & Order canon. It's encouraging to see a blockbuster hit series make a concerted effort to meaningfully address America's wake-up call regarding systemic racism.

Apr 9, 2021 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

Meloni is Meloni, and McDermott makes for a great rich-guy scumbag, so despite the generic nature of the storyline it's still a decent watch.

Apr 2, 2021 | Full Review…

Isn't "classic" L&O, but it's got an intriguing continuing storyline and two fantastic leads.

Apr 2, 2021 | Full Review…

It's a trope-y start for the new series, which leans heavily on the classic cop-out-for-revenge plotline. Moreover, despite the hyped reunion, Benson fans will be frustrated by Stabler's reticence.

Apr 2, 2021 | Full Review…

Offered a far grittier series than viewers may be used to. It felt at times more like a crossover with The Sopranos than part of the Law & Order franchise.

Audience Reviews for Law & Order: Organized Crime: Season 1

Terrible acting all around. I love Law & Order shows and this has completely let me down...

Very disappointed . The writing is almost comical. I was really looking forward to this show as I am an avid fan of all the other shows

A no-nonsense old-school ex cop's wife is murdered. It's pretty clear who did it. He leaps into action, immediately addressing possible ptsd, writing heartfelt notes to close friends, and immersing himself in a decade of missed sensitivity training.

Déjà vu NCIS Los Angeles? So disappointed in this show. For a high budget series, um, heard of continuity and research? I had to stop watching the second episode as it was so full of faults. As the biggest fan of Law & Order from the very first episode, this has changed the future of the franchise.

This may turn out to be ok, but afraid they are going to jam the "woke" culture down our throats yet again (based off of a couple of lines). I'm in wait and see mode. Had been a huge fan of the Law and Order franchise but moved on a few years ago, hoping this one brings me back but...

Detective Stabler is back, finally. The show is good! Perfect? No. But it was very enjoyable and I hope it lasts.
  • Apr 03, 2021
A slow and convoluted plot where everyone is somehow related/married and there's none of the courtroom drama that L&O fans crave the return of. This show barely deserves the Law & Order branding it tries so desperately to profit from, as it's essentially another bland, boring cop drama that lacks the clever scripts and irresistible hooks of past L&O entries.
  • Apr 03, 2021
"Law and Order" always had a feel and tone that was different from the other cop shows on TV. This show is labeled "Law and Order" but it's just another generic TV cop show. I expected more.
  • Apr 03, 2021
Dreadful and the ferris wheel scene was a rip off from Orson Welles Third Man - almost word for word! Slow, over dramatic, boring, and stupid!
  • Apr 02, 2021
Very disappointing! You bring Elliot Stabler - the no nonsense, intense, cowboy cop of SVU - back to essentially do nothing. This episode was so dull, not even Stabler himself was interesting enough to carry it. All the characters were bland as hell - no stakes for me as a viewer to care for any of them. On top of the fact that it didn't even feel like a Law and Order show. It might as well have been Chris Meloni starring in Cop Drama # 3467. I might give episode 2 a chance, but this was an unbelievably weak start. There is so much just told to the audience instead of being shown - boring. I get it's the first episode, so naturally there is some exposition to get out there, but this was almost all exposition. Watch the first episode of SVU and then watch this. HUGE difference.
