[An] engaging new dynastic drama. Go to Full Review

There are outstanding performances from Hoffman and Madden and the pacing of the show means that it improves as it goes on. Go to Full Review

As artful as the premise sounds, the story is too dense, wrought with too many players and edited in such a way that it often feels rushed and thrown together. Go to Full Review

Despite a talented cast, Masters of Florence immediately unravels to become a soap opera set in a Renaissance faire... The series goes too far to manufacture drama when the historical truth is more entertaining than the fiction. Go to Full Review

Steve W 04/06/2024 An entertaining watch, and very well performed, but the history is just way off. They murder characters (actual historical figures) that in reality died in old age. Makes it hard to get immersed in when they change the facts. See more Samuel D 02/22/2024 Not my cup of tea at all See more Max 11/14/2023 the music, the visual it all comes together like a renaissance painting. It is my comfort show, it just gives me a certain feeling I can't explain See more P. B. E 07/23/2023 I am trying to hang in with this as I've been to Florence and love the Medici story but find this series quite disappointing. I think Madden should be renamed Wooden. Hoffman may appear to be mailing it in, but really, what dialogue has he got to work with? I find the characterizations weak - the long suffering Contessina an eye roller, Albizzi almost a moustache twirling villain. Everything seems rushed, telegraphed, over the top obvious. It's just not good writing. I can't help comparing it to the fabulous Wolf Hall with the great Mark Rylance and the stellar writing of Hilary Martel to ground the work. Here, some good support from veterans like Cox and I look forward to seeing what Sean Bean can do. The plot at least moves along (which I know runs counter to my complaint, above). However, there's the usual anachronistic failings we come to expect from historical dramas these days but that doesn't excuse the impediment to suspension of disbelief. Anyway, this just popped up in my Netflix suggestions and I was surprised to see there were three seasons I'd never heard of. I'll stay for a few episodes of Season 2. If it doesn't improve, I'm out. Gripping from the first episode to the last with the extraordinary casting of Richard Madden at the helm this is a must watch. See more Mark S @MarkSteger 10/13/2022 Medici: Masters of Florence - S01 (TV 2016): Historical drama about the dynasty that ran Florence in 1400s. Politics, intrigue, sex, and violence with lots of 2-D characters. Easy way to absorb history. Only in the last episode did I realize S01 was a murder mystery at heart.
