See more Richard @Manpuppy Jan 25 Some negative reviews are pointing out the lack of chemistry between Maya Erskine and Donald Glover. But that's the point of the show, at least early on. They have nothing in common and they build their relationship based on shared purpose (and shared trauma). Erskine is impeccable with her "don't touch me" vibe (and this a likely extension of her Pen15 character, maybe even answering what could happen to the awkward, outcast girl when she grows up), but Glover's intention is a little more opaque. She seems more richly developed from both the writing and acting standpoints. It's not a spy/action show, and the disappointment that it's not seems to be where the negativity seems to come from. It's a show about real people thrust together into an unreal universe where their expectations are unclear, and how they grow into that world.
