For its first season, "Project Runway" brings together 12 aspiring fashion designers for a chance to win a label-launching mentorship program with Banana Republic, a fashion spread at ELLE Magazine, and $100,000 in cash. Each episode tests these designers' ingenuity through various themed challenges, with a budget and time limit. Supermodel Heidi Klum acts as host and head of the judging panel. Joining her as judges are top designer Michael Kors and renowned fashion journalist Nina Garcia. Tim Gunn, former fashion chair of Parsons the New School for Design, co-hosts the show and mentors the designers. Special guest judges include acclaimed costume designer Patricia Field ("The Devil Wears Prada") and actress Parker Posey ("Irrational Man").
