Critic Reviews for South Park Season 19

It was a fascinating season, at times frustrating in the same way that drove me from the series in the first place, at others so funny that it made me regret having been gone for so long.

One of its finest seasons.

Mar 11, 2019 | Full Review…

The little town of bigots, starkly opposed to progressive ideas, physically and morally transformed this season. South Park's storytelling capabilities did, too.

Oct 19, 2018 | Full Review…

South Park has coasted for years now. Even if not everything works, it's nice to see the show waking up again.

Nov 5, 2015 | Full Review…

From the season 19 premiere onward, political correctness is positioned in the show in some surprising ways.

Dec 10, 2015 | Full Review…

Where past South Park satires once looked at single issues, this season is sketching something like a grand - if messy - unified theory of anger, inequality and disillusionment in 2015 America.

The best argument for the continuing existence of Comedy Central's legacy show is that even now, almost two decades after the show became a left-field hit, co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone keep finding new ways to air old grievances.

Sep 22, 2015 | Full Review…

Considering political correctness can often be the death knell for comedy, it's still impressive how South Park was able to wring so many laughs out of the subject while making a valid argument against P.C. mongers in its premiere.

South Park's latest episode took on political correctness with scathing wit and truly outrageous moments.

Whenever South Park returns for a new season, part of the excitement is seeing what news stories Trey Parker and Matt Stone have been loading up on during the show's break.

Audience Reviews for South Park: Season 19

Season 19 of South Park delivers plenty of laughs and is as culturally relevant as ever. After Principal Victoria is removed for making insensitive remarks she is replaced by PC Principle, a no-nonsense authoritarian who's intent on forcing South Park to embrace a progressive attitude about race, gender, and privilege; meanwhile Mr. Garrison make a run for president when South Park becomes overrun with immigrants. As usual show creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone take on current hot button political issues, including Yelping, gentrification, internet news ads, ISIS, and Trump's presidential run. And there's a lot of serial storytelling, with several themes and story arcs building over multiple episodes. However, the clever satire and outlandish comedy can sometimes get spoiled by some of the more crude and irreverent jokes. Yet while it goes a little too far at times, overall South Park's 19th season is a lot of fun.

South Park has never been better in Season 19 - with some truly brilliant episodes and writing that culminates in one of the most ambitious finale the show has ever conceived.

Spot on social commentary, great new character additions, and a newly implemented over-arching storyline. Season 19 is quite possibly the best, most consistently funny season of South Park to date. 5/5 stars

Not sure how this has such good reviews. This is long, drawn out, overexaggerated, reaching too hard, idk, its just awful, not like classic south park at all. I watched season 20 before season 19 and season 20 was a lot better, but god season 19 was awful to watch, wasn't the least bit funny or humorous other than Mr. Garrison impersonating trump. Besides that, it was super corny and lame.

After several years of just coasting by, South Park finally decided to shake up its formula for its 19th season. The show introduced a serialized format this year, that carried a central theme about gentrification while also tying it into politically-correct zealots and subliminal advertising. Certainly a good idea on paper, especially as the best South Park episodes were always both socially relevant and brutally funny, but there's still an inescapable aura of been-there-done-that. Most of the material here has been covered in previous seasons, and executed better, although the show's insights into the 2016 presidential race are now nothing short of prophetic. The show has some big laughs this year too, particularly when using conspiracy-thriller tropes. Longtime fans of the show are sure to enjoy this season, but newcomers are advised to stick with show's better years (anything from 1999-2008 is a safe bet).

As a southpark fan since the start i found myself for the first time not understanding the satire . Yeah im in Australia but in previous seasons there was always an international understanding behind any specific usa political statement....but this season missed the mark on a universal humor or relevant storyline beyond america. As this season moved deaper into a draged out story line i found it difficult to have sympathy for the characters plight or understand the point and indeed the ending of most episodes. The process became more painful as it became apparent that every storyline basically followed a current facebook trend....without meaning to. Like a meme that floats on your feed for too long - the reocurring theme outlived its usefulness and loses its power to entertain. I hope this isnt the beginning of the end for southpark

    Some episodes got reaaaally boring...

WOOO social commentary with all good episodes and its funny.
  • Feb 21, 2016
season 19 was funny and intense with joke episodes like safe space, and your not yelping. But it also has intense moments in episodes 8,9, and 10. This season shows that south park can change but also shows that the creators stil want to keep it like it was.

The 19th season of southpark is just so darn good. Over the years southpark has not lost its special kind of humour for that everybody loves it. There aint any other show that can reach up to the art of southparks way of making fun of political and social issues. Of course things like political correctnes are importatant, but southparks shows us again that taking it too seriously is not a good thing to do as it isn't in any case. Also, this masterpiece makes me wish that southpark never stops doing what they do as everything is made fun of without coming too short on the story that is told. Southpark is always a good show to watch, if not the best. I can only recommend this to everyone. // every mistake i made has to be blamed in autocorrect
