An elite sniper, a master of disguise and a highly trained killer, the Jackal is an assassin, coldly carrying out hits for a fee. Following an attack on a high-profile and notorious politician, he's offered his riskiest job yet, one that could pay him enough to leave this life for good. But his work has attracted the attention of Bianca, a tenacious British intelligence officer, whose world-class expertise in firearms makes her the ideal candidate to hunt him down. What follows is a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe, as the Jackal works to carry out his new mission, while being pursued by Bianca. However, as the hunt continues and more casualties are caught in their crossfire, it becomes clear that there may be other forces pulling the strings. As both Bianca and the Jackal's personal lives clash with their work, they risk everything, pushing themselves to their limits with disastrous consequences.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

A globetrotting thriller made eerily plausible by Eddie Redmayne's reptilian performance, The Day of the Jackal turns dark deeds into good fun.

If Redmayne’s portrayal of the Jackal is steeped in mystery, Lynch’s take on Bianca is a stirring mix of impulsivity and cunning. They are the twin engines propelling the plot. Go to Full Review

J H @UpstateNYThriller Aug 11 8.4/10 Former soldier turned hitman. Show on peacock. Good espionage suspense drama See more 2shot2kills T @Mohammed346 Aug 9 Eddie Redmayne is brilliant as the Jackal—a cold, meticulous professional who earns every victory through careful planning. Bianca Pullman (Lashana Lynch), on the other hand, is completely unbelievable. Real intelligence work relies on logic and data, but Bianca's progress relies entirely on random guesses, convenient "hunches," and pure luck. Instead of an intense cat-and-mouse game between two brilliant minds, you get a master class in assassination undermined by a character who stumbles blindly into major breakthroughs just because the script demands it. See more Truth B T @TruthB Aug 3 Absolutely fantastic. Great pacing fantastic cast great editing the music is terrific too but definitely not too much music so it turns into a stupid network TV show vibe where it’s constantly trying to tell you how to feel. Eddie reymane is fantastic as the lead he’s very stoic but not so much the superhuman Jason Bourne type. He really allows you to lean into the character because he doesn’t wear it all on his sleeve in fact the way it’s put together you’re constantly wondering is he just got impeccable military training or is he a sociopath. Definitely top two or three series of all time for me up there with breaking bad. I can’t wait for season two See more Leila G @Glass999 Aug 1 I am generally a big fan of all spy thrillers, so it made sense that I liked The Day of the Jackal. The lead character is very well done, and while some of the supporting characters are a bit weak (the standard spy series family drama plot portion is pretty bad in this one), overall it's a pretty decent plot for a spy drama, and the lead is just very very good. My only real complaint is a whole lot of very odd, sort of off-putting music choices in weird spots, which sort of pull you from your immersion. See more R T @RT98217612 Jul 17 Very good entertaining and engaging the whole way through, while intense it’s a super fun watch highly recommend!
