Starting over isn't easy, especially for small-town guy John Nolan, who, after a life-altering incident, is pursuing his dream of becoming an LAPD officer. As the force's oldest rookie, he's met with skepticism from some higher-ups who see him as just a walking midlife crisis. If he can't keep up with the young cops and the criminals, he'll be risking lives -- including his own -- but if he can use his life experience, determination and sense of humor to give him an edge, he may just become successful in this new chapter of his life.

Victor octavian V Feb 4 Episode 7 confirms The Rookie has traded nuanced storytelling for a blatant Hollywood agenda. The resolution of the Bailey/Jason arc is a masterclass in moral double standards. We are expected to believe that Bailey’s history of psychological and "rough" abuse somehow grants her a "license to kill." By having Nolan, the show's moral "Boy Scout," validate her decision to help a hitman murder her ex, the writers have placed subjective trauma above objective law. The hypocrisy is undeniable if you flip the script: If a man were emotionally abused and gaslit by a woman for years, the show would never justify him hitting her, let alone hiring a hitman. If Nolan had killed a female abuser to "solve the problem," he would be the villain, not a husband "finding his way back." By forcing Nolan to abandon his principles, the writers prioritize "woke" catharsis over the grounded ethics that once made the show great. It suggests certain victims are above the social contract. See more Jonah H @storees Oct 4 I give this show a 3.5 reluctantly. It is a good show, but not an amazing show. It's fun and I like Nathan Fillion because he's so thoughtful and nice, but the overall writing is meh. The funny is good enough, and the drama is way too cheesy, but the message on police reform to dumber people is important and there's a part of me that hopes its getting across to the boomers who still watch cable TV. To me, it's just a comforting as a bang bang cop show with some jokes. I'll never suggest it to anyone but I'll also never miss an episode! See more Matthew M Oct 1 Seasons 1-5 I've loved and I STILL enjoy the show, HOWEVER With every single increasing episode that features Monica Stevens, I just skip parts of it. She is making me hate episodes and lose interest. She's not even a well written villain at this junction, nor is she the "love to hate her/him" type of villain. The amount of ever increasing ridiculous crap she gets away with is infuriating from the viewpoint of a fan, a casual viewer, and I'd think even a level headed writer by this point. If she doesn't get killed off or severely taken down a peg soon I'm gonna give up on this show as she literally sucks the enjoyment out of it and I'm skipping more and more scenes and not caring what I miss, cause it won't matter, they're not gonna be able to get her anyway *eyeroll* Note: This is NOT the actresses fault, she's wonderfully insufferable lol well done. I'm blaming and looking at you writers and decision makers See more Read all reviews
