Survivor creator Mark Burnett is the evil genius behind this moving ordeal for four-person teams... Compelling telly. Go to Full Review

There's probably 10 or 15 percent too much Bear, but his presence helps remind us of the competitive and sentimental stakes, and inspires some racers to open up for the camera. Go to Full Review

Hilariously, Amazon Prime Video subtitles much of the Kiwi accent, but characters like Fa'avae make World's Toughest Challenge such great TV entertainment. Go to Full Review

Eco-Challenge Fiji forgoes the usual wicked personality-driven drama of "reality TV" and instead presents a multitude of characters who all appear as genuine folk just wanting to finish the race. Go to Full Review

12/12/2021 The show was repetitive, focused on mostly non competitive American teams and in the end, allowed a disqualified team to complete the race and awarded that team with the gold medal. Specifically, several times during the race, teams who had problems with their outrigger canoes were told if they had to ask for assistance, they would be DQ'd. The rules were stated several times during the course of the race and the athletes clearly understood that if even one of their crew needed assistance, their race was over. But, in the 8th episode, one of the show's favorite teams from New Zealand, who had been leading, had their boat fill with water and it was clear their race was done. But, for some unknown reason, the rules changed at that moment and the Kiwis were taken aboard a rescue boat, brought to the nearest island, given food and warm drinks, allowed to rest for 90 minutes and provided with a new boat. That was the end of this for me. Complete nonsense. Don't waste your time. See more 01/21/2021 Started out good but the show only focused on a couple of teams (not evenly represented) and the winners should have been disqualified. See more 10/10/2020 So emotionally inspirational! See more 09/29/2020 Could have done without most of the personal stories. It was quite a bit, the drama happening on the course was better for me and I fast forwarded through most of it...so 10 episodes took two to three hours of tv watching. However the whole thing leading up to the end was disappointing how it went down. The last two episodes are filler of other teams and injuries. I think some production changes and you have a good show. See more 09/06/2020 Very disappointing, expected a fun exciting race, but the entire show concentrated on personal stories of the American teams. They probably showed the last teams 5x more then total of top 10 teams. Didn't even see a min of most of main contenders. So boring, really too bad See more 08/16/2020 SPOILER Alert: The show was great until episode 8. What's good: Showing a lot of adversity and the grit, etc. that these teams have in completing such a challenge. The terrain and landscape shots were very beautiful. The tempo was just right and the editing was great. Bear, the host, is a good host with a balance of positivity (not too much) and seriousness. What's not good: Okay, you have specific disadvantages/disabilities. Do you REALLY need to go on a trip and get hurt? Think long-term! ----------- SPOILER time: Near the first 1 or 2 episodes, 2 teams had to "forfeit" or forced into giving up when their boats ran into a storm. NOTE: the boats did not capsize. The game's ships came by and asked them if they needed help and if they wanted to get out of the water because of the storm. BUT, if they were to get out of the water into the safety of the rescue ship, they would forfeit the race. These 2 teams gave up and forfeited. Fine. Fast forward to episode 8: The frontrunner, team New Zealand was a few hours from the finish line. But, their boat capsized. So, they needed desperate help. The "storm" here wasn't really a storm and it wasn't as bad as the storm from episode 1 or 2. But, their boat capsized. The team leader blamed it on a rope/faulty part that basically broke part. So, this team was rescued. Here comes the worst part of the entire show. Team NZ should have been disqualified or asked to or forced to forfeit. They were rescued! Just like the 2 other teams in episode 1 or 2 who also needed rescuing. The only difference is that the New Zealand team in Episode 8's entire boat capsized which is even worse than episode 1 or 2. Also, the storm was NOT a storm, and not as bad as in episode 2. So, why did the game-show-director(s) force the early teams (in episode 1 or 2) to give up (if they were to be rescued) but did not force the New Zealand team to give up when they WERE rescued? In fact, they were offered a REPLACEMENT boat! This truly unfair to other teams. The same rules has to be applied to ALL teams. In the end, team New Zealand won. They also won $100,000. THe second team, team Canada, did not win. You make your own judgement after you watch the 8 episodes. My beef is that if the rule to force teams to give up applied to episode 1/2, then the same rule must be applied to episode 8 to the leading New Zealand team. You can't just change the rules. Also, if the New Zealand team captain thought the waves were too high, they could have waited it out. They didn't. They made the conscious decision to take a risk. The risk translated into a capsized boat and they needed rescuing. They should have been disqualitifed or forced into "giving up." And to top it all off, the Episode 8 "storm" was a tiny "baby" compared to the "Mother" storm in Episode 1 or 2. Just boggles my mind how unfair and even rule-fixing the show was. The show directors should do an addendum/edit and add that team Canada shoudl be the winners or.... at least "co-winners" New Zealand and Canada. Anyway, you decide. Thanks for listening.
