American actress Ann Crumb found fame on the stage both on Broadway and off. Born in Charleston, West Virginia, the daughter of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer George Crumb, she studied music and theater at the University of Michigan. She originally worked in medicine before eventually turning to acting. She was in her 30s when she made her Broadway debut as an original cast member of the landmark musical "Les Miserables" in 1987. She was cast as the lead in the original London production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Aspects of Love" in 1990 and followed the show to Broadway. She went on to star in "Anna Karenina," for which she earned a Tony Award nomination. Beyond the stage, she appeared in episodes of "Law and Order" (NBC, 1990-2010) and "Law and Order: Criminal Intent" (NBC, 2001-11). A foot injury suffered during a production of "Aspects of Love" limited her for the rest of her career. After "Anna Karenina," she largely appeared in regional and touring productions, particularly of "Evita." Crumb died at the age of 69 from ovarian cancer on October 31, 2019.
