Longtime television writer and producer Bob Bendetson, known for his work on numerous popular sitcoms in the '80s, began his entertainment career working on the TV comedy "Checking In" in 1981. From then on Bendetson began to write consistently in television for the next two decades. He wrote episodes of the sitcoms "The Jeffersons" and "Love, Sidney" before a long tenure on the series "Alice," a spin-off from the movie "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore." In 1982 Bendetson served as a supervising producer on "Newhart" (he later joined the show as a writer, penning the show's iconic last episode). Then, in 1985, Bendetson wrote two episodes of the '80s staple "The Facts of Life" before joining the popular sci-fi comedy "ALF" the next year as a writer and co-producer. In 1993 Bendetson started work on the biggest success of his career, the long-running family sitcom "Home Improvement," starring Tim Allen as a hapless Mr. Fix-It. Bendetson was executive producer of the show from 1993 to 1999, and also wrote the "fifth anniversary" episode. For his work on the show, he was nominated for an Emmy for Best Comedy Series.
