First radio job was for WJAR, an NBC affiliate in Providence, R.I., in 1938. Began working for NBC Studios in New York in 1944. Broke into an episode of Bachelor Father on NBC in 1963 to announce President Kennedy had been shot. Was the original announcer for both The Prince is Right and Jeopardy! Was the announcer for every season of Saturday Night Live from the beginning until season 39 (except season 7, the only one without Lorne Michaels as the producer). Retired in 2004, but continued to work for SNL, either flying into New York or recording the intro from his home in Arizona. Inducted into the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Hall of Fame in 2010.
