American screenwriter Leonard Lee's first Hollywood assignment, Espionage (1937), set the tone for his subsequent efforts. International intrigue pervaded most of Lee's scripts, including those for Paramount's Adventure in Diamonds (1940) and Fox's Bomber's Moon (1943). He also packed plenty of sinister characters and covert operations in his two Sherlock Holmes films for Universal, Pursuit to Algiers (1945) and Dressed to Kill (1946). Occasionally returning to Universal well into the 1950s, Leonard Lee wrote or co-wrote such diverting mystery melodramas as The Fat Man (1951) and The Glass Web (1953).
