First Nation actor Meegwun Fairbrother worked extensively on television in the United States and Canada, playing a diverse array of character roles on such series as "Helix" (Syfy, 2014-15) and "Burden of Truth" (CBC/The CW, 2018- ). Born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, his father, a member of the Ojibway First Nation, committed suicide shortly after his birth, and he was raised by his mother, a teacher of Scottish/English heritage, in First Nations communities throughout Ontario. Fairbrother's childhood was divided between outdoor activities like hunting and fishing and more cultural pursuits like dance, singing and art. But he also harbored a particular love for movies, especially science fiction, and loved to act out the plots of films he'd seen for his friends. While attending high school in Kenora, Ontario, he decided to follow a career in forensic science, but drama classes at local youth centers pushed him towards performance as his primary focus. After graduating from the acting conservatory at York University in Toronto, Fairbrother toured throughout North America in stage productions and acting workshops for First Nation youth. He made his screen debut in the limited series "Dancing with Spirit" (Bravo! 2007), and enjoyed minor roles in independent features and made-for-TV efforts before earning his breakout role as security chief Daniel Aerov and his long-lost twin brother, Toluk, on the Canadian science fiction series "Helix." The show's cult status led to more work on the small screen for Fairbrother, including a three-year run as a caddish lacrosse player on the comedy-drama "Mohawk Girls" (OMNI/APTN, 2014-17) and recurring work on the horror-fantasy drama "Hemlock Grove" (Netflix 2013-15). During this busy period, Fairbrother also found time to continue his art and culture workshops for First Nation youth throughout British Columbia and Ontario. In 2018, he returned to North American network television for "Burden of Truth," a legal drama with Kristin Kreuk as a lawyer who returns to her small town to fight a major pharmaceutical company. Fairbrother played a police officer on the series, which was picked up by the CW for broadcast in the United States.
