Humans in the Loop (2024) EDIT “The world that Sahay builds...feels as real as reality itself.” – The Economic Times (India) Jan 18, 2026 Full Review Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) 86% EDIT “DDLJ’s seductive charms lent a deceptive lustre to its strategically packaged ultra-conservatism.” – Himal Southasian Nov 30, 2025 Full Review Homebound (2025) 97% EDIT “Apart from its exploration of caste, Homebound is noteworthy for its empathy towards Muslims in a decade in which Hindi cinema has unabashedly demonised the community.” – The Economic Times (India) Sep 28, 2025 Full Review Sholay (1975) 95% EDIT “Beyond its entertainment value, Sholay is emblematic of a nation still held in check by forces urging its people to be better than they were, but making the mistake of not confronting divides that ran deep and have since caught up with it.” – Himal Southasian Sep 21, 2025 Full Review Sitaare Zameen Par (2025) 65% EDIT “...reminds us that you can populate a comedy with marginalised communities, yet never punch down.” – The Economic Times (India) Jul 7, 2025 Full Review Cactus Pears (2025) 97% EDIT “...about gentle men who just want to be left to themselves. Kanawade's debut feature is poignant, warm and stirs the soul.” – The Economic Times (India) Feb 12, 2025 Full Review Girls Will Be Girls (2024) 100% EDIT “Though it inhabits an initially lonely landscape for women, Girls Will Be Girls is ultimately an uplifting, energising collaborative rebellion against an unacceptable status quo.” – The Economic Times (India) Dec 15, 2024 Full Review All We Imagine as Light (2024) 100% EDIT “This is a deeply political film, but Kapadia makes the politics relatable and accessible by unobtrusively weaving it into the human stories of these characters, written with compassion and depth.” – Himal Southasian Oct 18, 2024 Full Review Premalu (2024) EDIT “Going by Girish's body of work...it appears that he is keen to create heroines who are not footnotes in a man's journey. Yet, Reenu peters out in Premalu's concluding portion because the script resorts to a formulaic approach to a woman's attachment...” – The Economic Times (India) Oct 6, 2024 Full Review Ambush (2023) EDIT “...doesn't possess the trappings of mainstream cinema that have translated into massive box-office returns for the likes of Pa Ranjith, Mari Selvaraj and Nagraj Manjule. What makes this indie-minded film precious is that it, too, is a voice from within.” – The Economic Times (India) Oct 5, 2024 Full Review Maharaj (2024) 29% EDIT “Coming as this film does from the Hindi industry that has by and large been genuflecting before the government and all right-wing forces in the past decade, it is impossible to look away from its courage.” – The Economic Times (India) Oct 5, 2024 Full Review Ullozhukku (2024) 100% 4/5 EDIT “Powered by Urvashi, Parvathy and consistent direction, Ullozhukku is everything that is precious about the best of Malayalam cinema: naturalistic, realistic, and an illustration of how both qualities could be a source of edge-of-the-seat entertainment. ” – annavetticadgoes2themovies Jul 3, 2024 Full Review Crew (2024) 67% 3.5/5 EDIT “The lesson from Crew for the likes of Indra Kumar (the Masti series) and Sajid Khan (Housefull 2) is this: you can joke about sex without demeaning other genders, without making light of violence, and without lazily aiming at the oppressed...” – annavetticadgoes2themovies May 29, 2024 Full Review Lootcase (2020) 50% 1.75/5 EDIT “The humour in Lootcase soon becomes sparse, the occasional wisecrack/misunderstanding can be seen coming from a mile and the pace slackens. The narrative’s lack of urgency is its undoing.” – Firstpost May 29, 2024 Full Review Amar Singh Chamkila (2024) 88% 3.5/5 EDIT “...brave in its stand on religious despots, lazy when it clubs harassment with fun and equates censorship with all criticism. It is also beautifully acted and uses music in the best way a film can, making it a memorable tribute to a folk hero...” – annavetticadgoes2themovies May 3, 2024 Full Review Do Aur Do Pyaar (2024) 86% 3/5 EDIT “Do Aur Do Pyaar ... is not in the business of finding villains. Instead it examines the circumstances that cause its protagonists to cheat on each other. ” – annavetticadgoes2themovies Apr 21, 2024 Full Review All India Rank (2023) 62% 3/5 EDIT “The unhurried demeanour and unmelodramatic presentation of even its most dramatic moments convey an impression that little happens here. In truth, it is packed with thoughtful character development and discreet socio-political commentary. ” – annavetticadgoes2themovies Feb 26, 2024 Full Review Manjummel Boys (2024) 2.5/5 EDIT “...survival thriller cum coming-of-age saga (that) is outstanding in part yet thinly written and inconsistently toned for the most part. ” – annavetticadgoes2themovies Feb 24, 2024 Full Review Bramayugam (2024) 1.5/5 EDIT “Behind the gloss and beyond an in-form Mammootty, Bramayugam is not scary despite its promising atmospherics. It is also flimsy ... until it begins to lay out its caste politics. The film’s allegorical take on caste proves to be muddled and insensitive.” – annavetticadgoes2themovies Feb 17, 2024 Full Review Malaikottai Vaaliban (2024) 2/5 EDIT “Malaikottai Vaaliban features some of the most sensational images and sound ever created for the Indian screen... It is also stretched to nearly three hours with a plot and character graphs undeserving of that length. ” – annavetticadgoes2themovies Feb 1, 2024 Full Review Neru (2023) 2.75/5 EDIT “Mohanlal’s filmography has for decades been dominated by hyper-masculinity and omnipotent heroes. So when he chooses to play a man who wears his vulnerability on his sleeve, the character’s significance extends beyond the boundaries of this storyline. ” – annavetticadgoes2themovies Jan 29, 2024 Full Review Fighter (2024) 38% 2/5 EDIT “"PoK stands for Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. You have occupied it. But we are the actual owners,” says Hrithik Roshan’s character... Never before has a Hindi film spelt out its proprietorial attitude towards Kashmir in such black-and-white terms.” – annavetticadgoes2themovies Jan 28, 2024 Full Review Aattam (2023) 100% 4.5/5 EDIT “Conversations on the all-pervasiveness of patriarchy and violence routinely draw this clichéd caveat from defensive participants: Not All Men. Aattam is a quiet reminder that ... the appropriate rejoinder often is: Yes, All Men.” – annavetticadgoes2themovies Jan 18, 2024 Full Review Halal Love Story (2020) 75% 3/5 EDIT “Sweet, deceptive simplicity in a layered community portrait...” – Firstpost Jan 17, 2024 Full Review Merry Christmas (2024) 84% 2.75/5 EDIT “Merry Christmas...is a crime drama aspiring to be a love saga. It is a slow burn that is intriguing in its first hour, but declines after its big reveal. ” – annavetticadgoes2themovies Jan 15, 2024 Full Review
