Audrey H @ANHarding 3d A Wolf in the Asylum is a deeply human and often heartbreaking documentary that treats its subject with real dignity. Over the course of the film, Wolf comes across as unconventional and troubled, but also intelligent, driven, compassionate, and deeply committed to giving voice to people who are often ignored or discarded by society. What stayed with me most was how fully the documentary brings Wolf to life. Rather than reducing him to his struggles, it shows him as a complex person: an artist, a storyteller, an advocate, and someone clearly haunted by both personal trauma and the larger history of mental institutions in America. His fascination with abandoned asylums, especially Kirkbride buildings, never feels superficial. You can feel that for him these places carried emotional and historical weight, and the film captures that in a powerful way. The protaginist is compelling as he is authentic; indeed, the authenticity--which many documentaries fail to capture--is what made made Wolf so compelling.
